Displays

High-dynamic range and 4K Ultra HD have taken the world by storm in 2016, so what’s next on the horizon? There’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months. Here are some of our favorites:

OLED: While OLED technology has been around for a while, it’s been a bit slow to catch on in the mainstream market. For a long time LG was the only major manufacturer producing TV displays with the backlighting technology, but with big announcements from Samsung and Sony that they would be jumping on the OLED bandwagon soon, it looks like this year may be its time to shine.

Install a Home Theater for the Perfect Entertainment Escape

Blog2-Install-a-Home-Theater-for-the-Perfect-Entertainment-Escape_1c39c2f01fa34684701364554fc3c68a

A home theater can come in virtually any shape or size. Whether you’re looking for a fully immersive, dedicated private cinema or simply a place to enjoy the Braves game with your friends and family, a theater can be customized to reflect your personal style and specifications. But no matter how you plan to utilize your space, you’ll want to make sure your components are optimized for peak performance – whether they’re in or out of your house. Read on to find out how your home theater can transform the way you experience your home entertainment.

Customize Seating for a Great Experience

For many homeowners, a home theater is a place for the whole family to come together for quality time with a nice movie or television show. For others, it’s a place to experience the way their favorite films were meant to be seen and heard. Whatever your preference, the right seating can make all the difference when designing a theater. While a nice, plush couch or recliner may seem like a comfortable option, it may interfere with the sound quality or disrupt the viewing angle. Customized theater seating by Palliser is a comfortable and functional solution for viewing movies and achieving the best possible sound and image in your space. Whether you’re a true film buff or simply looking to augment your family time, customized seating is a great option for any home theater.

4K Sports HFR Compatibility

Between 4K UHD, OLED and HDR you might feel like all of the acronyms surrounding the next generation of video displays are taking precious brain space away from important game statistics and player info. But here’s one you’ll really want to pay attention to: HFR.

HFR stands for high frame rate. Why is that important for a sports fan? The frame rate is all about motion. Movies are generally shot at 24 frames per second (fps), lending a “cinematic” depth to the image, as well as capturing the distinct difference between light and shadow. Sports are currently shot and broadcast in 60 fps, flattening out the plane and capturing movement with incredible detail. But higher resolution allows for even higher frame rates. When you upgrade to 4K, sports can be broadcast in rates well over 100hz, turning your home theater into the ultimate game-watching zone.

The Secret to Stunning 4K UHD in Your Atlanta Home Theater

atauaunov2_c91f043f8a1430e429b89d641e2b920e

The autumn is the perfect time to integrate upgrades to your Atlanta home theater system. With the major holidays right around the corner – and don’t forget the Super Bowl hitting early next year – you’ll want to begin upgrading your space with full 4K UHD HDR picture quality. But not all systems are created equal, and there are some issues you’ll want to address before you can enjoy the beauty of higher resolution and color range. In this blog, we’ll show you what to look out for. Read more after the jump.

Cabling

The most common – and most frequently overlooked – issue with upgrading your system is ensuring the proper amount of bandwidth. Remember, 4K UHD offers four times the resolution of 1080p HD, and that means your cables need to support four times the information. Throw HDR into the mix and you could suffer from a downscaled signal or even no picture at all.

So upgrading your cables is essential. For any devices contained within the theater, say a local UHD Blu-ray player, you can connect them with HDMI 2.0 cables. For any hardware racked neatly in the basement, you’ll want to fortify your signal with fiber optic cables which, unlike HDMI 2.0, can transmit 4K signals over long distances.

Tips on Hiring the Right Home Theater Installer

Select someone locally. Find a professional home theater company within a 50-mile range of your home. You are more likely to have an installer come by and tweak your system, if need be, when you are within a reasonable distance.

Ask for a link to the home theater installation company's Web site or for some images of recently completed installations. Also, ask to visit the home theater installers' showroom to provide you with living examples of their workmanship. Check our our portfolio. Here at Atlanta Audio we have a 6,000 square foot showhouse that showcases home automation, home theater options, whole house audio, lighting control, media rooms, video surveillance, and much more. Call us today to set up an appointment or visit our website at www.atlantaaudio.com.

Ask for references on finished projects that are similar to what you have in mind for your home theater and are relatively within the same cost range. Ask the homeowner about how the installation company works and how satisfied they are with the finished results. Visit our customer testimonials to get an idea of what our customers say about Atlanta Audio.

Find out how an installer works. For example if you are a neat freak and your professional installer is very proficient in plasma and audio technologies but can seem a little scatterbrained or sloppy, your working styles may not connect.

The Perfect Home Theater Design for the Minimalist in You

The_Perfect_Home_Theater_Design_for_the_Minimalist_in_You_91c3bfdecbfb620a9b83f0cbaefacec3

There’s a lot of equipment that goes into creating a top-quality home theater. The list begins with a projector, a display, and a speaker system, but those are just the basics. You must also consider source components, an AV receiver, a control system, cabling, seating, acoustics, and much more.

If you practice feng shui or prefer a minimalistic style throughout your Atlanta, GA home, we understand why a home theater system could seem like the perfect way to clutter your house with bulky, intrusive technology and disturb an otherwise sleek interior design. However, there are plenty of solutions that can complement any minimalistic style while delivering the home theater of your dreams. Explore a few clutter-free solutions below!

Gear Be Gone

Our team at Atlanta Audio & Automation specializes in custom home theater designs for any unique style, no matter how simplistic. We work with world-leading brands to offer homeowners intelligently concealed solutions that hide excessive wiring, source components, bulky speakers, and even do away with that pile of remote controllers.

Consider a custom ceiling soffit to hide your projector or select a projection screen that retracts to the ceiling when not in use. Motorized lifts are also a notable option to conceal speakers, displays, and other equipment until you’re ready to use them. What’s more, say goodbye to that big rack of AV equipment that typically lies underneath or beside the projector screen—we’ll create a dedicated AV closet hidden behind moveable wall panels or artwork so that it stays completely out of sight.

Build a Better Home Theater for the Ultimate Man Cave Experience

Are you ready for some football? For plenty of Atlanta, Georgia homeowners, football season is the perfect time of year – the pigskins are in play, the end-zones are freshly painted and the Falcons are on the field. But this year, there’s no reason to battle for space in front of the living room TV just to cheer on your favorite team. It’s time to turn that unused space in your home into the ultimate home theater. Deck it out with team colors, a full bar and, of course, top-of-the-line electronics for the perfect man cave escape. Take a look at how you can transform a room in your home into an essential game day viewing room.

Catch the Details the Refs Miss

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: 4K Ultra HD is the wave of the future. There’s no getting around it, you’ll want to invest in the latest technology for your new home theater installation. Take for instance the 75X91C by Sony. Only 15mm thick and sporting a whopping 75 inch display, the only thing clunky about this bad boy is the name. Sony’s biggest (and thinnest) television features native 4K resolution and improved handling of up-scaled HD. That’s just a fancy way of saying the display looks great, even if you’re not watching UHD content. And with a High Dynamic Range firmware update scheduled later this year that will allow the TV to reach even truer colors and deeper blacks, you can bet that the 75X91C will have you seeing details that even the refs miss.

3 Considerations for Your New Home Theater

Blog-3-Considerations-for-Your-New-Home-Theater_7b8e3b1887a6cd82f5868f5eb65ed2f1

When building a home theater in your Atlanta, Georgia smart house, you’ll likely want the best gear that money can buy. But you should know, there’s no reason to overspend if you’re not getting top quality. Designing your theater isn’t as simple as picking out the priciest projector and the snazziest seats – it’s about utilizing your space in a way that optimizes your viewing experience. If you want a hands-on visualization of what your personal cinema could be, come help us celebrate the opening of our new Experience Center on June 27. But before you head off, take a look at the ways we can enhance your home theater.

4K is the Wave of the Future

If you want commercial quality movies playing in your residence, you want to go with 4K. Otherwise known as Ultra HD – UHD for short – 4K represents the very best image currently available when it comes to televisions. And that is no joke, Ultra HD image actually sports four times the resolution of regular HD. That means you can sit just a few feet away without seeing any pixels.

As with any new technology, content is currently limited, but many streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Instant Video are offering hours of 4K entertainment. Plus, the Blu-Ray Disc Association has recently released the specs required for Ultra HD discs, so you can expect to see them popping up on the shelves sometime this fall. Get the Most Out of Your Dolby Atmos Home Theater

23154545464_d74d2e41729ca27cdf4946b5a86cd9a7

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Dolby Atmos is the best way to experience sound in your home theater. But simply having the top components in your space won’t make them sound impeccable. That’s where we come in. Atlanta Audio and Automation is Georgia’s expert in achieving the very best sound in private cinemas across the state. We tailor solutions specifically designed to function in your home because we know that each project is unique. Want to learn more about how we make your home theater sound great? Read on.

When Can You Get Dolby Atmos Content?

For months we’ve been excited about the impending release of 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays, in part because we expect great things sonically. But the truth is, Dolby Atmos home video, unlike Ultra HD, is here already. The latest Blu-ray releases like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 are being released with incredible soundtracks – leading many to call them the best-sounding home video releases ever.

But that’s not all. Netflix, which has begun streaming some 4K content, is delivering Atmos soundtracks as well. Similar services like Amazon Prime have also started experimenting with the sound format. Some experts are predicting that this could be the beginning of the end for disc-based home entertainment altogether (but we still love our Blu-rays!).

You’ve Got the Set-up, Now Get the Sound

Getting the best sound out of your home theater requires more than just great components – the entire room has to be tailored to create the ideal atmosphere. There are two steps you need to take for this to happen: specialized acoustic treatments and customized seating.

A Strong Network

If you want to control any part of your connected home, a strong network is key. Smart home technology – which is commonly referred to as the "Internet of Things" – needs more than just intelligent devices and happy thoughts to work effectively, it needs enough bandwidth to support every connection without slowing it down. The same is true for streaming your favorite content in Ultra HD.

According to content delivery network Akamai, only about 21 percent of U.S. homes had enough bandwidth to support 4K content in September 2015. But there's good news: your home simply needs a network upgrade to support all of those delightful pixels.

But if you’ve been following our blog, you already know that the conditions of the room you’re in will significantly affect the way the sound system works. That leaves many homeowners scratching their heads over how they can have Atmos integrated into their spaces. In this blog, we’ll answer some of your most frequently asked questions about what’s required to install the best audio gear around.

How does Dolby Atmos recreate commercial cinema sound?

As you already know, when it was introduced to the movie industry a few years ago, Atmos revolutionized sound mixing by treating each sound like an individual object. “Sound objects” don’t have to be assigned to specific channels, allowing them to move freely between each speaker. Therefore, the number of speakers in your space doesn’t matter as much as how they are positioned and calibrated. The biggest physical difference is the addition of a minimum of two overhead speakers, usually mounted in the ceiling.

Do I have to have ceiling-mounted speakers for Dolby Atmos?

Is iTunes Gearing up to Replace the Movie Theater?

atauaudec1_16b7ae62e2736ed747c807479f37e464

Remember the days when “direct-to-video” was synonymous with “low-quality”? Today that’s no longer the case with being able to easily access streaming services like Netflix and Hulu that produce celebrated original content, and higher-end services like Prima Cinema who put Hollywood blockbusters in your home the same day they premier in theaters. Maybe that’s why Apple is starting to make waves in the day-and-date streaming market. But what does that mean for your Atlanta home theater? Find out after the jump.

Same Day as Theaters?

As movie theaters start to wane and studios look for new ways to push out their content, your home theater stands to gain a lot. Now that Apple is entering the discussion, you may even be able to stream first run movies on iTunes. According to Bloomberg:

“21st Century Fox Inc., Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros. and Comcast Corp.’s Universal Pictures all confirmed over the past week that they are looking to offer high-priced, home-video rentals of new movies shortly after they open in theaters.”

Perfect for Surround Sound

When building a secondary home theater for guests, space is always a major consideration. Often the same area will have to accommodate sleeping arrangements as well as entertainment options. That’s where Sonos shines, by offering unobtrusive audio equipment that can be placed just about anywhere.

The best part? Your guests can still enjoy full 5.1 surround sound. By combining a Sonos sound bar – which offers three distinct channels – a sub and two satellite speakers, your secondary home theater can sound great without cluttering up the limited space. You can even select between the substantial Play:3 or the top-of-the-line Play:5 for a fully customizable sonic experience.

The Sonos Playbase

One of the big releases this year is the Sonos Playbase. The Playbase isn’t Sono’s first foray into home theater or media room tech – their Playbar remains a strong contender in the soundbar market. But the soundbase offers an added kick, particularly for homeowners with a smaller setup.

While the Playbar is designed to be mounted on the wall underneath a hanging TV screen, you’ll place your display directly on top of the Playbase. The added real-estate that the TV balances on is put to good use, with plenty of room to emphasize deeper bass notes. The result is a system that offers a lot of power in a relatively compact package.
