The Best Seat In The House

A home theater should feel like a special destination in your house—the one place you can retreat for a couple of hours to escape from reality and be transported into another world. The place you like to visit frequently with friends and family to enjoy the latest blockbuster releases—but without walking out with a backache from sitting in a poorly constructed seat.

Get Familiar With Apps

One of the words you hear most frequently when talking about smart technology is "apps." Most smart devices function with a dedicated app that uses the technology already in your smartphone, tablet or computer and applies it to controlling the device. A system like Control4 or Elan g! offers the ability to combine multiple apps under a single interface. The company can periodically update your app to include new sources for control, meaning you don't have to purchase a new remote every time you want to add a new device. You can find a list of apps for all of your home control needs here.

5 Tips for Implementing Home Technology Systems – Without the Pain!

In a recent conversation with a very experienced builder, it was clear that he and many builders are looking for direction on the best way to have a home’s technology systems installed. He admitted it is difficult for builders to wrap their heads around the myriad technologies and brands available today. He said something that resonated deeply, “We don’t know what we don’t know” about home technology. Yet, technology has undeniably become an integral part of our lives. It is no longer a question of if the home will have technology systems in it, it is a matter of how much technology it will have. Yet, having technology installed in a home has historically been a frustrating experience for many home builders and homeowners alike.

Home Theater Design - 3 Essential Ingredients

"Are you in the process of planning a home theater? Possibly you are well into the design or even already have some construction underway. Or, you may have only recently started to consider the possibility. In any case, you have likely been overwhelmed with copious, confusing and often misleading information on just exactly what creates a great home theater experience. To make sense of it all, it is a good idea to step back and consider what is possible, and what is essential to attain the results you desire. This article will consider three key ingredients of proper home theater design.

To be clear by what is meant by the term "home theater" in this article, we are referring to a room dedicated and optimized for movie, music, TV, and increasingly, video gaming. Other synonyms home technology professionals may use interchangeable for the term "home theater" are "home cinema" and private "screening room". What we are not referring to here are dual-purpose rooms that may double as the Living Room, Great Room, etc, that are open to other rooms in the home and that are not able to be optimized for high-performance audio and video. In home technology professional speak, these dual-purpose, more casual rooms are called "media rooms".

Sleep Technology

"For the sleep obsessed, there’s a plethora of technology available designed to keep an eye on your sleep quality and habits, from wearables and sensors you place on your mattress to headbands that aim to measure brainwave activity. If you’re already using an Apple Watch or a Fitbit, you’re probably familiar with their built-in sleep tracking functionality. However, there’s a couple new companies offering wearable products that are geared more narrowly towards rest and recovery, like the Oura ring or the WHOOP band. The Whoop tries to parse out the data taken from your everyday life and break it into three categories: strain, recovery, and sleep, then gives you an overall percentage grade of readiness for more strain so that you have some feedback about whether you’re ready for a workout or should be prioritizing rest. The Ouro uses a similar system, but their tracker is a minimalist ring with sensors inside the band."

Read on to discover the ways you can increase the comfort, entertainment and safety of your home with smart automation.

Wake up Refreshed

Imagine: when it’s time to get up in the morning the shades in your bedroom begin to rise automatically. Music begins to filter into your room via your whole home audio system. You wake up refreshed and ready to take on the day ahead. The music follows you down the hall and into the bathroom where you’re greeted with the morning news on your Seura mirror television. Make your way downstairs to the kitchen and gather your family for a healthy breakfast with an HD intercom system. With smart home automation, your morning is simplified and your day gets off to a great start.

Set the Scene for Movie Night

The lights go down and the sound rises. From overhead a projector and screen simultaneously drop from the ceiling. Without getting up from your comfortable, custom-built seat – positioned perfectly for peak surround sound performance – you select the biggest summer blockbuster via your tablet’s touch screen. You hit play, and that’s when the magic happens: you’re transported into a world of cinematic bliss. And you’ve done it all with a few buttons on a single device. A dedicated home theater is one of the most exciting, and most rewarding, applications of smart home technology – one that lets you experience home entertainment like never before.

Now that Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are making waves in the smart home automation market, many homeowners are beginning to experience the convenience of voice-control. The First Steps in Gesture Control

While the perfected technology may still be years away, some manufacturers have begun taking the leap into gesture control. The latest adopter is smart thermostat company NEST, who have collaborated with eyeSight Technologies to integrate their optical system with their products. According to Electronic House:

“eyeSight Technologies is making it possible to operate a NEST thermostat with the introduction of  singlecue Gen 2. In the singlecue app, users can add Nest Thermostat as a climate device and create a new climate activity on their singlecue Gen 2 device. Once users sync their singlecue Gen 2 device with the app, they can control the temperature (up or down) by a simple wave of a finger.”

How You Welcome Guests

If you’ve been following our blog, you know that your smart home system can help you make your spaces more comfortable. But it can also minimize the stress welcoming guests like friends and family from out of town. Even when you’re out of the house, your home remains hospitable to anyone you invite over.

First, you’ll need to assign your guests a temporary access code. This is a code that allows them entry via your integrated smart locks. When they arrive, you’ll receive an immediate notification. As they walk through the property, the occupancy sensors can tell the lighting to brighten their way and the thermostat can adjust the temperature to a more comfortable setting.

Tips on Hiring the Right Home Theater Installer

Select someone locally. Find a professional home theater company within a 50-mile range of your home. You are more likely to have an installer come by and tweak your system, if need be, when you are within a reasonable distance.

Ask for a link to the home theater installation company's Web site or for some images of recently completed installations. Also, ask to visit the home theater installers' showroom to provide you with living examples of their workmanship. Check our our portfolio. Here at Atlanta Audio we have a 6,000 square foot showhouse that showcases home automation, home theater options, whole house audio, lighting control, media rooms, video surveillance, and much more. Call us today to set up an appointment or visit our website at www.atlantaaudio.com.

Ask for references on finished projects that are similar to what you have in mind for your home theater and are relatively within the same cost range. Ask the homeowner about how the installation company works and how satisfied they are with the finished results. Visit our customer testimonials to get an idea of what our customers say about Atlanta Audio.

Find out how an installer works. For example if you are a neat freak and your professional installer is very proficient in plasma and audio technologies but can seem a little scatterbrained or sloppy, your working styles may not connect.

Control4 has pioneered high-end, innovative lifestyle automation solutions, making them a leader in smart home technology today. For an example of their smart home options, just imagine this: After a busy day of work, shuttling kids to after-school activities, and a quick trip to the grocery store, you pull into the garage. A sensor in the garage knows you’re home. A preprogrammed “welcome home” scene illuminates the garage and the hallway to the kitchen, then turns on the overhead lights in the kitchen and family room. The alarm has been disarmed. You like a little soft background music to unwind after a long day, which automatically starts when you walk in the door.

After putting away the groceries in the refrigerator, you tell the kids to start their homework at their desks in the upstairs nook. You have a Control4 touchscreen controller in the kitchen and a minimalistic camera upstairs, allowing you to keep an eye on the kids to ensure they’re really doing homework and not playing video games. All you have to do is bring the video up on the touchscreen.
